Skizza – Immortal Wings (Prod. Mazz) [Audio]

Saskatoon, SK – Saskatoon MC Skizza is fresh on our radar. And he’s back at it this week with a new single release titled “Immortal Wings” (produced by Mazz).

This track is dark. Skizza overanalyzes the purpose of life; and more specifically how he fits into the grand scheme of the universe. Things get heavy: “And before long/ I’ll be gone/ Long gone/ Without leaving a single trace.”

The Mazz production is reminiscent of something The Weeknd might hop in over. It’s floaty, and simplistic. So it forces you to listen to what Skizza is saying. Skizza’s still finding his flow so the delivery on the track is jumbled. But it’s all about the lyricism, here.

Skizza walks us through the cycle of life: “Turn a mountain to a statue/ Turn the statue into gravel/ Then dust/ Then unravels and drifts away.” You see what he’s getting at, here? We are all the mountains. It’s a metaphor for our existence. We change as life progresses, but then we eventually turn to dust and drift away.

Darker ideations aside, Skizza also uses this track to reflect on his transition into adulthood. He delivers an anecdote about being 11 years old and wanting to grow his wings. But he admits he’s now ready for it all to slow down for a minute so he can catch up to himself: “I still look at myself in the mirror/ But it’s clear that I’m looking at a different face.”
