French Montana blows through Vancouver [Review]

Vancouver, BC – This past weekend French Montana made a quick stop in Vancouver on the beginning leg of his Set It Off Tour. While half of the tour features R&B crooner Jeremih, Vancity unfortunately wasn’t included as part his agenda.

Local act Autokrat held her own opening the show just fine though with partner-in-crime freedrxgs and they definitely got the crowd hyped and ready for the headlining act. In between performances, Sailor Gerry and Dkay kept the attention of the crowd in-check while Cashius Clay made the most of his hosting duties.

After what felt like hours later French Montana finally stepped on-stage around 1 a.m to a full house of mostly D-boys and a surprisingly balanced female to male crowd.  They chanted every lyric to tracks like “Ain’t Worried ‘Bout Nothin'” “Don’t Panic” and “Ocho Cinco” while French donned his classic laid-back demeanour in all black with a heavily gold laced neckline.

He dropped his featured verses from tracks like “Mula” and “Work (Remix)” and in just over 30 minutes he vanished off stage. The crowd staggered around surely confused by the abruptness of his exit but after the lights began to brighten it was clear that French needs no time at all to make his mark. Despite the length of French’s set it was another successfully turned up event at Harbour Events Centre.

Special thanks to Spotlight Events.

Kassandra has her hands in several cookie jars. Born in Ontario but raised on the West coast, she is currently located in the wonderfully diverse East side of Vancouver. With a passion for all things creative KassKills is a hair stylist by day and HipHopCanada's West Coast Regional Editor by night. Music and public relations are her true passions and although she didn't inherit the talent of her musician father she makes her mark on the industry through other avenues. By night you can catch KassKills at almost every Vancity hip-hop show, shaking hands and snapping photos while covering and supporting the local music scene. On top of that she works closely with one of the cities most reputable concert promotors, Timbre Concerts. Kass is a hustler by nature and works hard to play a key role Vancity's hip-hop scene. Over the years she has seen, photographed and interviewed many of hip-hop's top artists such as T.I, Raekwon, Sheek Louch, Noreaga, Black Milk, Waka Flocka, Ab-Soul & Dizaster.
