Pimpton – My Day ft. Shantel Stewart [Video]
Regina, SK – On Dec. 22, Pimpton launched new visuals for his track “My Day” (featuring Shantel Stewart). Big P gives a nod to all of us caught in the 9-to-5 hustle of our day-to-day lives. He bodies that. Pimpton brings us in to a day-in-the-life in Saskatchewan.
Before the beat even comes in, you’ll catch a quick shot of a snow-covered Saskatchewan vanity plate that reads “I Shine.” That sets the tone for it all. The video was directed by Stuey Kubrick and the track was produced by 8track. Check it out after the jump.
Pimpton starts off the video repping a “Pimpton 306” Saskatchewan Roughriders jersey and rapping from the Mosaic Stadium at Taylor Field. It’s ever so reminiscent of that time Drizzy hit the centre field of Toronto’s Rogers Centre during the video for “Headlines.” Except P’s not putting on for Toronto – he’s putting on for Queen City.
Vocalist Shantel Stewart makes her appearance in the video as a diner waitress at The Mercury. And the two of them play out their 9-to-5 routines. It hits deep in the solar plexus because it’s that relatable. We all get caught up in our own lives while still hoping for something more fulfilling. And the beauty of this video is that it’s not all about that struggle – Big P is living proof that it’s entirely possible to put yourself where you want to be.
Shoot, though. Y’all just need to take a minute and take this in and really appreciate it. When I first started following Pimpton’s work, he was bodying stoner rap. That was his thing and he did it well. But he’s growing up in the rap game.
He spent the last year or so experimenting with his sound, and pushing himself to that next level. He released his new KCMKV2 project, hooked up a sweet little Future feature, and really started in some some deep introspective ish. So instead of lighting a joint and going in on a weed-laced trap banger, Big P has switched up his entire M.O. This song is a realness wake-up call.
