TassNata – Say Goodbye ft. Danny Brown & Rich Kidd [Audio]
Vernon, BC – West Coast MC TassNata just hit us with a monster collaboration he did with Danny Brown and Rich Kidd titled “Say Goodbye.” This track comes to us off of Tass’ forthcoming Before Mourning album. And it features some hard-hitting Rich Kidd production. Shoot. This joint is a serious good look for the Canadian homies, Tass and Rich. And having a new school legend like Danny Brown in on it all takes things to that next level.
So y’all are probably wondering: what – exactly – are we saying goodbye to on this joint? Here’s the deal: the track is the last track on the upcoming album. So it’s a way of bringing closure to Tass’ body of work. But in addition to that, we’re also saying goodbye to the end of an era, and getting ready to welcome in a new 2015 culture, and a different sound.
Tass knocks off the first verse by saying goodbye to everything we know in life. He takes it, flips it, and reverses it on us, and now we’re saying “hello” to less violence, new music, and everything we’re hoping 2015 hip-hop will be: “Sirens, sirens, all you hear is sirens/That’s the sound of the violence/ 5-0 and the fireman, funerals and violins/ No moment of silence/ Everybody wave /Say goodbye to them.”
Then Danny Brown comes in on the second verse with that signature nasal high-energy flow and 984,324,321 bars-per-minute delivery. This feature is a lyrical gold mine. Did DB just say, “Listening to Wu-Tang/ Rubbin’ on his balls”? Yes. Yes, I believe he just did.
Then Rich Kidd brings it home on the third verse with an opening line affirming his mack daddy status, where he tells us about all of the lesbian porn he’s watched. But he hits a more serious note when he says, “I’ll take you to my block/ There aint nothing to sightsee.” Also, I just want to remind y’all that Rich also produced this track. He is one of few who I truly believe is both a top-tier MC and producer. So many cats try to do both, and end up half-assing it. Rich Kidd is in a league of his own.
Oh, and you might be wondering how Tass met these two talented rap cats. So here’s the down low: he’s known Rich since 2006 from back-in-the-day when MySpace was poppin’ off, and stuff. And he first connected with Danny back in 2010 over Facebook after doing some work with Danny’s fellow Detroit dudes, Black Milk and Elzhi. Danny and Tass didn’t actually meet in-person until the summer of 2014 at a show in Edmonton. But they just delivered a monster track.
Hopefully it starts roasting up the airwaves ASAP. Make sure you keep your ear to the ground on TassNata’s album, which is due out on Dec. 16. And catch Tass performing at the Drake on Dec. 18 for Junia T’s release party. Peep the details over here.
