DillanPonders – Used To (Remix) [Audio]
Toronto, ON – King Blow (aka: DillanPonders) just hit us with a freshly cooked remix of “Used To,” which is the Drake-assisted fifth track off Lil Wayne’s just-released Sorry 4 The Wait 2.
Dillan slides in over top of that crisp WondaGurl production and lets us know what he’s getting used to. While Drizzy and Weezy cranked out braggadocios fame-fuelled rhymes on their original cut, Dillan dives a bit deeper into both sides of his own newly acquired fame in the game.
Long story short: I’m pretty sure that this is going to be one of those tracks that everyone wants to drop remixes over. But DP beat you cats to it. He got his remix out within days of Weezy’s project launch. That’s hustle. Y’all better get used to it.
On the first verse, DP explains his God status (“Druggies lookin’ at me like I’m Jesus”), and admits that he’s changed on us (“I ain’t been that n**ga for a little while/ This gon’ take some gettin’ used to”). Then he goes fiend on the last verse and cranks up the hunger-factor as high as it goes: “You’re a bitch/ And your girl’s a f**king whore/ Every single day I’m higher than the one before.” Tee-hee. Dillan just called you a bitch. But it’s not all flex. He also gets a bit vulnerable and questions his recent success, too: “Who the f**k is really f**king with me right now?”
I don’t know if this is what he was getting at on that particular line, but here are my own two cents: I feel like the Internet era is a bit of a soul-kill for MCs. You see people lurking on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, who show all the love to rap cats with “Likes” and “Retweets.” But when it comes to actually supporting the artists (i.e.: paying to attend shows and buying or listening to the music), those same cats from Facebook, Instagram and Twitter don’t always turn out. They pretend to f**k with their “favourite” artists, but they don’t actually f**k with their “favourite” artists. You feel me?
So that part of the verse gets heavy AF. But since DP is DP, he had to leave us hanging on a lighter note at the end of the track. So he peaces out to go do mushrooms. Because he’s DP and that’s what he does. Get used to it: “I just bought shrooms/ So I’m out this f**king booth.”
