MD – Good As Gone (Promo) [Audio]

Vancouver, BC – On Jan. 8, Vancouver artist MD (of The Boomsday Alliance) dropped a dope freestyle over top of the DJ Premier-produced “Good As Gone” by the Dilated Peoples. And this freestyle is dopeness maximus.

Here’s some background details for you: I wrote a pretty extensive rant on #DearRappers back in July about freestyles; namely, I was sick of everyone hopping over the same beats and cranking out the same unoriginal flows. I challenged MCs to work on penning genuine freestyles; freestyles that were in-line with each artist’s own respective identity. So MD of The Boomsday Alliance penned this freestyle as a response to that very article. He didn’t freestyle over “0 to 100,” or “A Milli,” or any other joint that you’d expect a freestyle on.

Instead, he picked a DJ Premier beat that he – PERSONALLY – felt was “criminally under-viewed and appreciated” and put his own spin on it. For the record: his spin is a very important social commentary that y’all should hear. Check what MD of The Boomsday Alliance had to say about his track, take a peep at the freestyle below, and check the lyrics after the jump:

“This was written in response to a blog written by KassKills & Sarah Sussman of HipHopCanada.com on July 1st 2014 [#Dear Rappers: Stop Sending Me 0-100 Freestyles]

I chose what I felt was a criminally under-viewed and appreciated song produced by DJ Premier and I am using this as the start of my weekly Thursday releases for 2015. After signing with AMP Records and dozens of video game and music placements I am releasing new vocals. Original material is next week.”

Lyrics

Where have you been?/I’ve been around carcinogens/
Car loads of combative gods and immigrants/
Deliverance rednecks/Russians/Dominicans
Little people/possessed and high off of Ritalin/

It has been/Way too goddamned long for/
My return to the fight and you picked the wrong war/
Encore/Make it clap like the glitter gultch/
In a vault from Fallout/Falling into mulch/

I’m from meka 5 south of the reservoir/
Hanna-Barbarra/stars/animated/set apart/
Dead to art/Lifeless visuals are priceless/
Crisis critical/Using digital likeness

Sightless/Like your domain ain’t registered/
See when the dead emerge/and I ain’t even said a word/
hello/I am really glad to re-meet you: /
MD of The Boomsday Alliance/I make beats too
