Rashid St. James- Hallelujah (Prod. SolidMas) [Audio]
Toronto, ON – Rashid St. James has just released a hard-as-nails new joint titled “Hallelujah” off his forthcoming debut project entitled The Nightmare In The Afterhour.
“Hallelujah” is an expression of both worship and rejoicing. It’s got that double meaning; and Rashid spins it over top of a Solidmas beat to both exalt and celebrate everything that is “IDGAF” (aka: I don’t give a f**k, aka: do whatcha want, aka: stop caring so much about what other people think about you): “Bought a chain/ Now I think I’m Rick the Ruler/ Muddy water in my cup/ She sipping coolers/ Martin Luther, Freddy Krueger smoking Buddha / ‘Bout to re-up/ I need Jesus/ Hallelujah.” Check it below.
This song hits hard as the repetition of this “Hallelujah” hook laces itself throughout the track. It’s murky AF, but it’s also got that religious undertone to it.
It reminds me of a Killer Mike show. If you’ve been to one, you’ll know EXACTLY what I’m talking about (and if you haven’t I’ve seen him live this time and this time). Killer Mike takes his fans to church; not typical church, though. It’s this deeply spiritual place of worship found amongst the grime of the underground hip-hop scene. It’s a place where the hardest of heads are united as one spiritual entity to give all praises due to hip-hop. That’s the vibe I’m getting off this track. 100%. There’s a pureness found amongst the raw rough-edgedness of it all. It’s a redemption of self.
Rashid St. James is taking us to church on this track. But instead of running a confessional or asking us to repent, he’s offering us his highest praise. If you’re a sinner, he f**ks with that. If you’re an outcast, he f**ks with that, too. And if you’re looking for some solace, you’ll find it between the bars of this track.
