Suicide Kings Canadian Tour hits Alberta this month [News]
Calgary, AB – On February 7, the Suicide Kings kicked off their Canadian tour (with opener Halfcut) in Edmonton as the first of five stops across Alberta this month. The hip-hop duo of MC Joey Knuckles and producer King Cole recently dropped Crown Of Thorns (side note: I interviewed them about it here), and are already gearing up for the launch of a new project this spring titled Rock ‘Em to Sleep.
On Sunday night SK performed in Red Deer, and this upcoming Friday they will perform in Lethbridge. On February 14, the Kings head to Calgary to perform a supreme V-Day rap show at Nite Owl, followed by a show in Halfcut’s hometown Fort Mac on Feb. 15.
The Calgary show features opening support from both Halfcut and Dragon Fli Empire; which makes for a night of serious status. That line-up is stacked with three of Calgary’s most heavyweight hip-hop acts. These are all top-tier artists in this city, so it’s a great look to have them all on that bill.
If you have to do Valentine’s Day, this is the place to do it. Girls love rap dates. They do. Trust. It’s a thing. Take your girl to this show. Peep the tour flyer after the jump.
In case you’re not familiar, these two are all about the boom-bap. Cole has a knack for crafting the freshest throwback old-school beats. Then Joey hits the mic with grimy underground vocals and it all comes together as a sound that can only be described as “Suicide Kings.” It’s hip-hop music with a mentality that’s punk rock as f**k. Dudes also have the best features ever. Joey is from Detroit so he gets a lot of dope American MCs to guest verses. I got on to cats like Aztek the Barfly and Cancer because of of SK.
Speaking of monster guest verses, Suicide Kings recently announced that they will also be releasing a track with Guilty Simpson via Stones Throw Records. Ya heard? Guilty Simpson. As in – the dude who worked with the late great Dilla man.
If you lurk around the Feedback Friday producer sessions that go down in Calgary at Beat Drop, you’ll have been one of a few lucky cats to have heard Cole play this joint a few weeks ago (I was there – I’ve heard it – the joint is fresh to death). You may have also tuned in to CJSW at the beginning of the month to catch some new tunes from these two. Either way, we’re digging what we’re hearing.
