K-Riz – Cool Chick (Prod. JDats, LordQuest & Cameron Browne) [Audio]

Edmonton, AB – Young Edmonton rap lord K-Riz is gearing up for the release of his debut Fresh Air LP. So to get us all itching on the drop, he released a fresh new jam titled “Cool Chick.”

This song is an ode to all of the cool chicks who keep things real and do their own thing: “Her grind is untouchable/ Her mind is on another level/ Can’t reach/ No time for the comfortable/ Always looking forward.” This is not just another female appreciation song. This song celebrates a very particular type of female; the type of girl that every guy wants to wifey, and every girl aspires to be. Check it out below.

If you were one of the lucky few who caught K-Riz’s recent performance/spiritual awakening at 10 at 10 in Calgary, you’ll recognize this jam. K-Riz blessed the stage at Commonwealth in Calgary earlier on this month and performed this song. It was some seriously sexy ish. He made a shout-out to all of the cool chicks in the crowd and then he went in on this track. And as soon as he started singing, the thirst became very real. I definitely seen girls swooning in the crowd. TBH, everyone was swooning. It was a beautiful moment.

K-Riz is one of the most talented spitters in Alberta (trust – he can go off at like 542,876,432,129 bars per minute). In terms of technicality, this man knows how to deliver and he knows how to work his flow. But this particular song also showcases K-Riz’s singing abilities. Spoiler alert: dude has chops.

This song features some monstrous production credits from the likes of JDats, LordQuest, and Cameron Browne (on the keys). K-Riz also disclosed that the LP version of the song will include live horns courtesy of Octavio Santos (who’s worked with Slum Village, G-Unit, Evil Needle and more). I love how the production on here was a collaborative effort. Because this is one beautiful beat. It’s got a wavy breezy summer melody subtly laced with 808s that give it a bit of bounce. That, and JDats and LordQuest are two of my favourite producers on the come-up. So seeing them create something together is a sacred thing.

And just so you know: if you’re digging the smooth K-Riz vibes on here, you’re going to keel over when this new project drops. K-Riz says he was inspired by the Soulection sound and decided to use the LP to showcase a sound that combines the best of the classic ’90s sound with wavy new-school future sounds.
