BBC Radio 1’s Benji B dedicated an entire show to Montreal and it was amazing

Montreal, QC – Fresh off a trip to the mecca that is Montreal, BBC Radio 1’s Benji B dedicated an entire show to Montreal on Mar. 17 and it was one of the greatest things ever. The three-hour-long show (which you can peep over here) included an interview with Montreal production kingpin Kaytranada, as well as interviews with Lunice and Jacques Greene. The show also included guest mixes, courtesy of A-Trak and Tommy Kruise.

The playlist for the show included a monstrous line-up of some of our favourite artists. On the production side of things, we got to peep music from Kaytranada, Da-P, A-Trak, Lunice, Shash’U, High Klassified, Pomo, Jacques Greene, and Dear Lola.

We also got a listen in on some of our favourite MTLien rappers including The Posterz, Jai Nitai Lotus, CJ Flemings, CeasRock, and more. The programming also included the track “Montreal” by The Weeknd…because of course it did.

Oh…and Kaytrana dropped a world premier from his new LP; a sweet little collaboration with Karriem Riggins and River Tiber titled “Bus Ride” (which you can listen to over here).

At the beginning of the podcast, Benji B announces that this episode is the first of several international-focused shows he plans to run. It’s super humbling that he chose Montreal as his first global spotlight, though. And it’s such a proper fit. I feel like the Canadian music industry has been so Toronto-centric for so long. But within the last few years Montreal has really solidified itself as THE spot to watch for music. It’s dope to the MTL getting that sort of recognition on an international level.

So for your listening pleasure, we’ve included Kaytrada’s 20-minute-long music guide to Montreal, as well as A-Trak’s 35-minute-long Montreal Expos Mix. If you have a few hours and want to vibe out to some dope Montreal music, make sure you head on over to the BBC Radio 1 website to listen to the entire episode.
