Live Up To My Name: You need to listen to this new heater by Baka Not Nice

Toronto, ON – Over the weekend OVO Sound Radio premiered a brand new track from Baka Not Nice titled “Live Up To My Name.” This track comes to us as Baka kicks off the roll-out for his upcoming 4 Milli project.

Baka’s been a low-key affiliate of OVO for a minute now, appearing on NWTS, More Life, and more. Baka recently got out of prison (again), after getting locked up multiple times over the last few years for human trafficking, firearms charges, and other offences.

Last time he got out of the pen, Baka dropped some heat with Murda Beatz. And now he’s back at it with this new track produced by Alex Lustig, Bricks, and Narcos. “Live Up To My Name” is a hard-hitting trap summer slapper: “I drink Henny when I shoot my pistol at the range/ That way when I’m tipsy I still know I got my aim.” Baka also nonchalantly slides in a line about his lengthy early 2000s prison sentence: when he went into jail, Men in Black got released. When he got out of jail, Justin Timberlake released “SexyBack.” Do the math.

Banger status aside, it feels like Baka is using this track as a way to feel out his solo artistry. As it stands, the man is pretty much just known because a) He’s an OVO affiliate and he’s worked with Drake and b) He’s an OVO affiliate who spent time in prison. As an artist, it’s incredibly difficult to pave your own lane when people just know who you are in association to another artist or crew. Baka needs to be able to live up to his name; not the co-signs or affiliations. And the man knows it.
