Breakin’ Convention in Toronto: 3 day hip-hop dance celebration takes place June 23-25
Toronto, ON – The Sony Centre for the Performing Arts, in association with Luminato, is pleased to present the acclaimed Sadler’s Wells project, Breakin’ Convention from June 23-25, 2017.
Breakin’ Convention is committed to celebrating, elevating and supporting hip-hop dance theatre. Curated and hosted by UK hip-hop pioneer Jonzi D, this is an awe inspiring weekend of exceptional performances from world champion b-boy and b-girl crews to cutting edge street dance companies – live on stage.
Headline programming on June 23rd and 24th at 7:30 p.m. includes some of Canada’s best hip-hop companies performing alongside renowned international acts including Just Dance (South Korea), BirdGang Dance Company (UK) and Soweto Skeleton Movers (South Africa). You don’t want to miss Soweto Skeleton Movers’ comedic contortionism, frenetic footwork and magical hat tricks.
On top of that, local Toronto crew Tense Image is ready to shock you with their popping style!
Lastly, you’ll want to be at David Pecaut Square on June 25th between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. for the Breakin’ Convention Park Jam. This day of public activity sees dance artists joined by DJs, beat boxers, and graffiti artists in a funk-filled, open-air dance, music and art extravaganza for the whole family.
