Honey Jam returns Aug. 24 in Toronto showcasing 15 artists; hosted by Tika Simone

Toronto, ON – For 22 years, Honey Jam has fostered the development of up-and-coming female artists, resulting in successful alumni such as Nelly Furtado, Melanie Fiona, and Jully Black. The annual Honey Jam Canada concert returns on Thursday, August 24, 2017 inside The Mod Club Theatre in Toronto

This year’s concert features 15 artists from across Canada representing a diverse range of genres including hip-hop, R&B, pop, soul, blues and rock.

Hosted by Tika Simone

Tika Simone is an artist, creator, cultural producer, T.V/Online personality, activist, and advocate for the empowerment of female artists and creators. She is a classically trained musician and performance artist who has been a part of the music/art landscape in Toronto/NYC for over a decade. She is widely known for her work in a diverse range of projects, from her breakthrough role in Trey Anthony’s Da Kink in My Hair, to frequent appearances on MTV’s The Aftershow, to Tika’s own Intimate & Interactive/The Known Unknown.

Now Tika’s love and passion for culture and music has led to the release of her first EP Some Things Are Better Left Unsaid. Tika is receiving critical acclaim for her voice, her energy, her love, Her music.


WILL

WILL is a singer/songwriter and multidisciplinary artist, whom at the age of five moved to Canada from the Caribbean island of Trinidad and Tobago. WILL considers herself a multi-disciplinary artist who compliments her music with creating hairstyles, fashions, paintings and often directs her own videos. WILL is currently in the development stages of her debut EP.


Tyra Jutai

Classically trained in piano, flute and voice, Montreal performer Tyra Jutai began writing songs and learning guitar in her early teens. Her versatility and discipline has enabled her to extend her training to incorporate jazz, blues, rock, electronic, and folk influences into her original work and improvisations. In the local Montreal jazz scene, Tyra revisits jazz standards while developing her technique including improvisation in the oral tradition of jazz music.


Jet Lyse

Jet Lyse is a rapper, singer, songwriter and dancer, who recently released #MCDGG “Mega City Diva Girl Gang” produced by her cousin Jor’del Downz and featuring Nessa. Lyse was born in the East end of Toronto and raised in Regent Park and is of Scotian descent. She started her own female movement Mega City Diva Girl Gang which consists of her younger sister Nessa and 3 of her cousins.


Lindsay Misiner

With a roaring voice of haunting passion and songwriting skills far beyond her years, Lindsay Misiner’s live performances have a captivating nature with an element of vulnerability. Misiner been compared to Erykah Badu, Amy Winehouse, Janis Joplin & Etta James. She will release her debut solo album in September.


Jazzy Monika

20-year-old singer songwriter Jazzy Monika blends R&B, soul, reggae and hip-hop into her music. At the age 16, she wrote and recorded with Shawn Morpheus (The Force MD’s) which inspired her to follow her passion for music. She has collaborated with Atlanta producer Cicero on several songs, including “F.O.E” featuring rapper Pressa and is working on her debut EP Mixed Emotions Chapter 1. Jazzy is part of the Toronto Remix Project.


Karis

19-year-old Karis is a songwriter, dancer/choreographer, singer, musician and budding music producer. Growing up in Jamaica, she was exposed to a rich artistic culture that fanned the flames of a passion burning for the arts. Karis, who wrote her first song at age ten, has co-written and produced the music for the Youth Day Anthem, which she performed in Dundas Square with Juno award-winner, Liberty Silver.


Alexandra Hawse

Alexandra Hawse is a fearless artist with a vocal range almost as wide as her incredibly eclectic taste in music. The 18-year-old from B.C. has a deep background in classical music and love for the sounds of the British Invasion. Hawse works with vocal coach Michelle Newman, producer Murray Daigle and the writing team of Roseanne Baker-Thornley and North Easton to experiment with her sound.


Raelene Bailey

Raelene Bailey is a 24 year old vocalist, poet and spoken word artist. This sultry sister speaks of Blackness – love, pain, the struggle and the legacy – using her art forms as an impetus for healing and change. In 2015, Raelene collaborated with producers, Muxubo “OBUXUM” Mohamed and Adam “JustVibe” Favours, to release her debut EP Renaissance 23. The ep includes “Working for The Man” which was featured on the Neo2Soul Innagroove Mixtape in the UK.


Jenna Bennett

22-year-old Jenna Bennett has won multiple songwriting competitions and placed first in Centennial’s Got Talent in 2014, bringing her to Los Angeles for the BET Experience. Jenna has opened for Alex Veliz and Juno nominee Mia Martina and recently recorded a 5 track EP in Malibu with producer Adrian Cota.


Julia Gartha

Julia Gartha is a 21-year-old singer/songwriter/pianist who is studying Contemporary Writing and Production at the Berklee College of Music on scholarship. Gartha was a reluctant piano student at first, but she soon came to realize that the instrument was the perfect way to express her thoughts and feelings. She has sung the National Anthem at several Blue Jays games. The latest release with her award winning Acappella group Pitch Slapped is Complexion.


Divine Lightbody

Divine Lightbody is a 16-year-old vocalist currently attending St. Roch Catholic Secondary School in the Arts Program. She has had the opportunity to perform in Nashville, Chicago and her hometown of Brampton to sing for the mayor. Divine participates in African drumming and dancing (Ngoma) and musical theatre (Broadway Bound).


Tasha Angela

Toronto artist Tasha Angela is a 21-year-old singer/songwriter who recently released a debut EP titled Out of my head. As a soul/r&b singer who writes her own music she hopes to bring music back to life as she writes and sings from personal experience.


Jana Teovano

Born in Serbia, raised in Greece and currently residing in Toronto, Jana Teovano is a multi-instrumental, acoustic performer with music rooted in indie, pop and new jazz. She has a sultry sweet voice that perfectly marries Norah Jones’ smoothness and Amy Winehouse’s lyrical maturity and attitude. Teovano performs at various venues in Toronto and with a catalogue of more than 30 original songs she is working on her debut EP.


Capri

Capri is a 17-year-old singer, songwriter, dancer & aspiring actor known for the song “Hope” that was inspired by her mother’s battle with breast cancer. The song, which she wrote at age 12, caught the attention of Nelly Furtado who invited Capri to join her on stage to sing at one of her concerts. Capri is currently in the studio, writing and working with producers on her first EP. With a mix of pop, soul, dance and a little bit of rock, she is ready to show you what she can do.


Milla Sanchez

Surrounded by a family of artists, Milla Sanchez exhibited an intense interest in the arts early on. At 16, Mia attends the arts program at Central Technical School in Toronto, while spending much of her time writing, composing and practicing her craft. Learning guitar and piano, Sanchez has an insatiable need to perform and she creates music that is both soulful and poetic.
