Journey to the West: Edmonton’s Touch to release new album on Nov. 10
Edmonton, AB – Our friends over at Hand’Solo Records have another dope project ready to share with the masses. This coming Friday, Nov. 10, Edmonton’s own Touch (from Touch & Nato fame) will release a new album titled, Journey to the West.
For Journey to the West, producer T. Perk sources his samples from cassette tapes of folk songs he rescued from various traditional Chinese markets, and surrounds them with thick, head-banging drums, while Touch weaves a slick narrative that continues from one song to the next. His re-telling of Chinese folk hero Sun Wukong’s tortured life—substituting Wukong’s mission to find the Sutra with a mission to find true hip-hop through self discovery—eventually culminates in an end battle and a surprise conclusion that rewards those with enough patience to take in this hip hop audio book from front to back.
You can pre-order the project now and check out an early leak off the album, “The Seventeenth Branch,” below.
Following his successful WCMA-nominated first official release in 2007 with producer (and current business partner) Nato, Touch spent the next few years touring Canada, opening a recording studio in his hometown of Edmonton, and working with international producers from Belgium to China. Known for his engaging and expertly executed performance that includes as many elements of hip hop as anyone can fit onto one stage, Touch has rocked the crowd with the greats from hip hop’s past and present.
