I think both the banjo and fiddle have the most apathetic sound when being played

I dunno man, I always thought frets were just there to make it easier to read music or learn how to play guitar

I buy and sell instruments for a hobby

frets are to shorten the vibrating portion of the string to an exact point with ease.

for example, if you hold a string against the board between the 2nd and 3rd frets, the string vibrates from the 3rd fret to the bridge.

without the fret, you would have to have your finger on the EXACT right spot, which is difficult for single notes and near impossible for chords.

what does the string do

they vibrate, making a sound.

the shorter the length of the vibrating section, or the smaller the caliber of the string, or the tighter the string.... the higher the pitch

longer vibrating section, larger caliber, looser string..... lower pitch
