thought I'd share this link to a series I heard about a while back and never got to start watching it until just today...

very interesting and educational.

The series is called 'Black in Latin America'

each episode is only 50 minutes long.

I just watched this ep about Mexico & Peru's black history.... here's the description

Mexico & Peru: The Black Grandma in the Closet

Quote:
In Mexico and Peru Professor Gates explores the almost unknown history of the significant numbers of black people—the two countries together received far more slaves than did the United States —brought to these countries as early as the 16th and 17th centuries, and the worlds of culture that their descendants have created in Vera Cruz on the Gulf of Mexico, the Costa Chica region on the Pacific, and in and around Lima, Peru. Watch full episode.

Anyway, check out this link, to see that episode and a few others that visit Brazil, Dominican Republic and Cuba:

in that episode about brazil, i learned about Chica (aka Xica) Da Silva, she was born into slavery but ended up becoming one of the wealthiest women in brazil, because she was romantically involved with her master who was a diamond mine owner and one of the richest men in the world...he eventually freed her and she and him continued their relationship, had 13 children together.

it's a really cool story...she went from being a slave to a very powerful wealthy woman. crazy

Holy fuck, you're stupider than I thought.
1) of course I knew that black people were in the countries I mentioned, but obviously it's not common knowledge that there was/is THAT large of a black population, even Mexicans don't realize how black they really are.

2) you are the perfect example of a Latin American who hates black people, even though when we've seen your old MySpace pic posted here, youre black as fuck lmao

3) the countries you mention are in the Caribbean, I only mentioned that i didn't know about black history in Mexico, Peru and Brazil. I know about Caribbean history, I took Caribbean Studies courses in university, and all I have to do is look at my own Jamaican family (mixed with Black, white, Indian and Cuban) and I see how mixed up Caribbean families are.

4) I'm not a history teacher. You think that everyone who works in education, is an expert in black history? Yeah black history is the number one subject in school, huh? Are you really THAT dumb?

Of course you are!!! :(((
