With 4/20 upon us, it was only right to dedicate our Song of the Day to one of Toronto’s biggest weed aficionados (and a budding rap star), The 6th Letter (aka VI). The new “Cloud Hoppin’” single was produced by Drae Da SkiMask, and comes in support of The 6th Letter’s forthcoming EP, #ThaReUp, which will be out in the near future.
“If I were to describe tha sound of tha project, I’d say it’s tha perfect get high/get fly/get money music.”
A couple of months ago the young lyricist blessed us with the DumDrumz-powered “Tell It Like It Is,” and he capped off 2017 with his self-directed and edited video for “Roll Me A Dub.” Anticipation for new material from the BKR$CLB artist has been building ever since.
We asked VI about #ThaReUp:
“Tha EP will be dropping this summer, no specific date as of yet but once that’s set in stone you’ll know. Tha title ThaReUp was inspired by my lifestyle which consists of ‘Re’n Up’ on new ideas/inspiration, energy, sounds, luxury street-wear and, of course, good weed. Tha cover art for tha EP is a rendition of an art piece that was gifted to tha founder of BAPE/A Bathing Ape (also co-founder of BBC/Ice Cream) by graffiti artist Brian Donnelly aka KAWS when Nigo sold his company to new owners in 2012.
Tha original art piece depicts a KAWS/Bart character burying a doll made in the likeness of Nigo symbolizing tha end of what ppl refer to as tha ‘Nigo Era’ (BAPE from 1993-2012). My rendition is basically tha opposite, It depicts a KAWS/VI character digging up tha buried Nigo doll and runnin off wit it, which symbolizes me bringin forth tha resurgance of Japanese luxury streetwear (vintage BAPE & BBC/Ice Cream). If I were to describe tha sound of tha project, I’d say it’s tha perfect get high/get fly/get money music. It features Raz Fresco, Lo Thraxx and Key! (aka FatManKey).”
You can check out “Cloud Hoppin’” below, along with the project’s previous singles. Stay tuned for #ThaReUp.
