Somebody Like Me: Brevner drops new visuals in support of FACES

Somebody Like Me: Brevner drops new visuals in support of FACES

A couple of weeks back, acclaimed Vancouver rapper Brevner came up big with a new single off his next album. Today he does it again, along with the new music video to accompany it’s release.

The FACES album is set to drop this June and the new Brandon Gregora-assisted video “Somebody Like Me” is only going to ramp-up anticipation even further.

“Somebody Like Me” follows two previous singles off the project including “Dreams” (featuring Stevie Ross) and “Young & Righteous.” It’s the third out of a total of five singles that Brevner will be releasing before the album is out.

“With an emphasis on light and colour, and shooting at multiple frame rates, Director Aaron Mallin, D.O.P Jeremy Cox and Brevner capture the songs flirtatious duality visually creating a lane between production-heavy, East Coast trap and lyrically enlightened, West Coast hip-hop.”

This is the third visual collaboration for Brevner, Aaron and Jeremy to date.

Their “Chico” music video release generated over 315,000 views between the Director’s Cut and the official video, was screened at the Toronto International Short Film Festival, was shortlisted for the Malta Festival in Spain and won an award for Best Music Video at the London Independent Film Awards back in July.

The new one is off to a great start with just under 10K views in 24 hours, and a ton of visible support from the community.

Brevner gave some insight on how the song came together in a post on Instagram:

“When Brandon Gregora originally sent me this demo, I knew it was a big record, and I knew that his talent was undeniable. I knew I had to be a part of it. It was one of those moments where I felt obligated to lend my skillset and do my best to take the project to the next level.

Some times being an independent artist and an entrepreneur means rolling with the punches. I had a very small window to shoot this video… I was on tour with SonReal and had a couple days off until the next date. Luckily the days off were in Victoria, Brandon’s hometown, so we decided to shoot it there. Vancouver is always intrinsic to my videos, so, having the chance to do the same for B and Victoria seemed like the perfect opportunity.”
