With his highly-anticipated IKIGAI album set to drop this spring, Vancouver mainstay Brevner of the bsharp collective is back with the new “Validation (Kensho)” single.
The new song is available now on Apple Music, Spotify, and other digital outlets via URBNET. It’s the second release (or second chapter) from Brevner’s forthcoming project, IKIGAI Vol. 1, and follows “ACAB (Kishi Kaisei)” which came out at the end of March.

This is a case study and a documentation soley based on the artist ‘Brevner.’ A testament to the things an artist can achieve without the pressure that comes from typical music industry create / polish / release structure. With that in mind, brevner was able to move freely throughout the entirety of this experiment and create art that stays true to his process. The only stipulation – anything he created musically or visually had to be finished within 24 hours. The point of this is to truly capture the essence of the moment and the reflection of his emotional state in the purest way possible. Not over thinking the process because of time constraints forces him to rely on creative instincts brevner does this as well as he can. What started out as an experiment has since turned into a new way of life.
Brevner is a name that carries weight on the Canadian West Coast. Growing up in Vancouver of Japanese and Trinidadian descent Brevner has always stood out amongst his peers for his unique look, artistic savviness and brash, honest and unwavering talent.
Brevner co-founded bsharp collective where his skills in rapping, song-writing, producing and directing elevated his dexterity for his craft leading him to both JUNO and MuchMusic Award nominations in 2012. In 2014 was provided the opportunity to direct and feature in Chinx and French Montana’s “Feelings.” Most Recently, Brevner co-directed Royce da 5’9’s “Cocaine” Video, which has garnered 2.3 million views in its first month.
Brevner harnessed his folk-like, heart-on- your-sleeve, writing style to share personal stories of his rough past and create a hip- hop project unlike anything he created before: the Brevner EP. With features from international artists like Riff Raff, Project Pat and King Louie the release of this project gained Brevner global traction in 2016.
Brevner combines the heart of Bushido Project with the classic appeal of Eclectricy and the contemporary style of Brevner EP on his highly anticipated forthcoming release IKIGAI Vol. 1, set to be released in the Spring of 2019.
“IKIGAI” (a Japanese word whose meaning translates roughly to “a reason for being, encompassing joy, a sense of purpose and meaning and a feeling of well-being.”) The new release will be created with the intention of ultimately merging two of Brevner’s passions – audio and video production into one product, leaving you with a tangible look into the creation process as a whole.
