Cardo Antonnio may have slipped under our radar, but that ends now. The Toronto artist has been getting plays around his city and looks from blogs and platforms across the board – and it’s for good reason too. His latest single “Paid in Advance” is a glow-up anthem for the ones who have stepped into their best selves. Whether that’s copping some slicker attire or getting paid in advance, growing into your most confident and successful self is a subject that we agreeably can all get down to.
Through our correspondence, Cardo explains, “‘Paid in Advance’ was my way of bringing a bit of braggadocio while still maintaining a nonchalant flow. The record came about pretty quickly. J. Cortz called me and was like ‘YO, I have something for you.’ That night I head over and we were just vibing. Cortz plays the melody with the flute and my eyes lit up. Right then I just started mumbling my melody and flow, “Look at my chain, look at my watch.” I remember thinking I had to have something catchy as the “finishing” line something relatable. It was so fitting.”
