Richmond Hill prodigy producer Krinny is a name we’ve gotten very familiar with recently. Over the last few years, the 19-year-old producer has been a GTA staple, racking up production credits with guys like DillanPonders, Ty Senoj, and TRIPSIXX. But it turns out that Krinny is also an extremely talented vocalist, with a dark and brooding PBR&B-trap aesthetic.
Earlier this month Krinny released a brand new self-produced track titled “Dumb Teen.” The record’s title is a self-deprecating shot at Krinny’s song-writing abilities, and the track itself is one of several songs Krinny has released as a vocalist lately.

Although he had his come up as a producer (and still fully intends to continue pursuing that), Krinny decided to start singing as a way of further exploring his artistry.
It can be difficult as a music producer when you’re feeling ways about a beat you’ve made, and an artist interprets your beat differently and delivers a whole new vibe. Q&A: Krinny
HiphopCanada: Start off by telling me what this track means to you on a personal level.
Krinny: To me, it’s only the edge.
HipHopCanada: Talk to me about the significance of the title “Dumb Teen.”
Krinny: After I wrote it, I read it all back and thought “Wow! This is some dumb shit!” I was also (and still am) a teen when I wrote it. You could say the name just came to me in a dream.
HipHopCanada: You came up on the scene as a producer. So tell me the story behind how you wound up singing.
Krinny: I’m very picky with how things sound and haven’t found anyone with the same mindset. So I figured I’d try and do shit solo.
HipHopCanada: Talk to me about how you built this song on a technical level, and what went into the creation of the beat.
Krinny: Wrote it first one night, woke up the next morning and made the beat around the feeling the lyrics gave me at that moment. Ended up changing the melodies a few times and then voila – “Dumb Teen.”
HipHopCanada: How does your process for self-production differ from your process for producing for other artists?
Krinny: I make beats based off how I’m feeling at that moment, but words aren’t so easy for me to express. I write when the feeling comes. So making beats to fit that feeling can be difficult once its gone.
HipHopCanada: As it stands, are you planning on pursuing this artistry further? Are you planning on transitioning out of being a producer into being a solo artist?
Krinny: Definitely still a producer. I’ll always love making songs with others but right now I’m exploring ways of expressing myself through music .
HipHopCanada: What’s the dumbest teen thing you’ve done lately?
Krinny: Give girls too much attention.
