On Friday, two-time Grammy-nominated multi-platinum Compton rapper, songwriter, producer, actor, and entrepreneur The Game shared his post-apocalyptic music video “West Side” from his forthcoming album, Born 2 Rap.
The Aaron Green and PhillyFlyBoy-directed visual is set in a dystopian West Side wasteland with Mad Max inspired vehicles and rapper Dave East playing The Game’s arch nemesis. The video also features a cameo from actor Jackie Long.
“West Side,” produced by Wallis Lane, Big Duke and Prince, is the street single from The Game’s ninth official studio album, Born To Rap. The upcoming album will follow previous full-length 1992 that debuted #1 on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Album, Rap Album and Independent Album charts. With 1992, The Game is tied with Drake for the most #1 albums debuts on the Top Rap Album chart, according to Billboard. He’s also tied with 2Pac and Lil Wayne for the third most #1 debuts on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.
The Game locked down a place in the pantheon alongside greats of both coasts by a combination of bar-for-bar bravado, provocative observation, hard-hitting hooks, and sharp introspection. Now, he delivers possibly his ‘final album’ in the form of the aptly titled, Born 2 Rap.
“West Side” is available now on Spotify, and other digital streaming platforms via Entertainment One/Prolific/5th Amendment Entertainment.
