Joéllen has released her first official music video. The Toronto singer-songwriter enlisted Montréal’s Fatty Soprano and Shutter to visualize her Binnz-produced banger, “My Place,” which guest stars Mississauga rap artist, Seth Dyer.
Straying away from the typical R&B narrative about love and heartbreak, “My Place” is about a woman’s perspective on being the side chick, taking you on a fantasy ride from the angle of a mistress which is a topic women don’t often voice in music.
“‘My Place’ came to me while I was working with the producer of the beat,” says Joéllen on how the song came together.
“He was singing the main line of the chorus and I decided to take the whole theme in that direction. I thought it would be fun because a lot of male artists speak about that topic but female artists rarely do.”
“My Place” is currently featured on Flow 93.5’s Made In Toronto series and is gaining traction with Spotify playlists such as Just Vibing which curate to over 46,000 listeners every month. Raking in 10,000 streams within months of its release, Joéllen continues to gain new fans from all over.
You can find the single on Apple Music, Spotify, and various other digital outlets.
