Multi-talented SoCal native Josh Dominguez welcomes you to a trippy West Coast locale in his slick new video for “2 AM,” a catchy and immersive track off his early 2019 EP, The Current.
The video stars Dominguez along with two mysterious characters who help to flesh out the psychedelic tale. The narrative plays out alongside the track’s lyrics that depict a young man who sounds intent on knowing what he wants—but what does he want, really? Love? His childhood? There’s a lot to unpack here, and it’s thrilling to watch how it unfolds.
“On this six song EP, Dominguez serves up an impressive freshman effort that weaves a tale of getting swept up in the current of love, lust, regret and a healthy dose of ‘fuck you.’”
The themes in the video are explored in clever and creative ways by Dominguez, who actually directed the video as well. It was edited by Almog Avidan Antonir, with Wackoe Films handling photography, and Gifted Glitch providing the sharp visual effects. You may know GG’s other work from his visual projects with Dominguez’s frequent collaborator Ariano, who provided the woozy production on “2 AM.”
Dominguez and The Current reach another level through a powerful partnership formed with veteran SoCal hip-hop artist and producer, Ariano, who wrote “Looking for Me” and “Waiting,” co-wrote with Josh on “2 AM,” and “All Night,” and produced every track on the EP.
Ariano brings not only his prominence as a writer and producer to the project, but also his connections forged over 20 years in the SoCal scene. Ariano’s musical partner, LDontheCut (DJ for Sublime with Rome) mixed and mastered every track on this electric EP and opened the doors for five of the six tracks to be recorded in Hollywood at Fresh Goods Music studio. Only “Waiting” broke the mold with a recording in Austin, Texas.
