After peaking number one on the iTunes Hip Hop & R&B chart last August—and second overall amongst all genres (second to Taylor Swift)—Vancouver artist Kresnt has been steadily climbing into hip-hop elite status among the latest generation of Canadian rappers. While his singing and melody driven tracks continue to attract the global masses, he’s also packing bars and punchlines reminiscent of hip-hop’s Golden Era in the 90s.
With the latest single “Northern Bars,” produced by Nani Beats, Kresnt provides the listener an inside look into the music industry: “You know what happens when Kresnt step up in the party, A lot of fake love but that won’t ever stop me, we wrote the manual so can’t get mad when they copy.”
Whether it’s recording with legendary hip-hop producer Ken Lewis in million dollar studios, or closer to his his humble beginnings recording in his basement, Kresnt keeps pushing ahead with his sights locked on the top of the game.
“The brothers from the basement, The same dreams we chasing, that couldn’t record past 9 p.m. cause pops was sleeping, only had the weekend but honestly we still did it.”
You can find “Northern Bars” on Kresnt’s Rumi album which is available on various digital streaming platforms including Apple Music and Spotify via The Lunar Cycle.
