LATOYA JANE – EVERYTHING
About LaToya Jane
Latoya Rodney, known professionally by her stage name LaToya Jane, was born in the rough neighborhood of Jane & Finch, in the Toronto area. Music has always been a form of therapy for Latoya. When the streets wanted to consume her, she always had music as her escape.
Latoya was incarcerated for 18 months in a women’s facility in Toronto. It was in prison that Latoya started to write her own music ,where correctional officers would pay her to sing. This experience motivated her to pursue her passion for music once she was released.
In 2014, LaToya won the award for Best Director at the Commffest Film Festival for Creature, a documentary about her time as a gang member in Toronto. The films impact helped LaToya become a prominent voice for at-risk youth. She worked as mentor for boys and girls throughout the city and served as a keynote speaker at various events within Ontario.
With her exceptional soul-consuming talent for singing and her distinctive, hard-edged lyrical rhymes, Latoya is a force to be reckoned with. What makes her music so remarkable and relatable is the fact she speaks from her real life experiences.
SUBMISSION SUNDAYS INFO
Submission Sundays is a segment we introduced in 2018 to show love to the hundreds of artists and groups that submit new material to us weekly. The segment gives us a chance to show love to people who aren’t already receiving regular coverage on HipHopCanada, and gives them a chance to connect with our viewers.
Each week, we’ll select 8 new submissions and feature them on our homepage for at least a 24 hour period.
To be considered for our weekly Submission Sundays segment, please submit your content using our Submission Form.
Please note, due to the volume of submissions we receive, we are unable to respond to each submission directly. Submissions with missing information will be deleted.
