HipHopCanada Inc., Canada’s longest-running hip-hop media property, has appointed Maricel Joy Dicion as Managing Editor.

As Managing Editor working directly with Jesse Plunkett, Co-founder and Editor-in-Chief, and Maurice Laurin, Co-founder, Dicion will help manage HipHopCanada’s editorial activities.

In this role, Dicion will support the development of HipHopCanada’s content strategy, with a focus on delivering thought-leadership pieces as well as ongoing coverage of the Canadian hip-hop scene, promoting the culture’s growth, innovation, and creativity. Earlier this year Dicion launched HipHopCanada’s The Narrative Of… series, a monthly series that focuses on sharing thought-leadership content and providing valuable industry and culture-related information.

Dicion’s career includes a number of diverse and progressive roles that have contributed to a solid foundation in communications. She was a reporter with Toronto’s leading all-news radio station before kicking-off her career in marketing and public relations. From developing and executing award-winning campaigns and content for her marketing and PR clients, to working with artists in Toronto to plan and execute publicity blitzes, Dicion brings more than a decade of storytelling to this role.

“We couldn’t be happier to have Maricel in this role,” said Jesse Plunkett, Co-founder and Editor-in-Chief, HipHopCanada Inc. “She is the exact type of person and personality we want representing us – passionate about hip-hop and committed to helping foster the culture’s innovation in Canada. We welcome Maricel as the Managing Editor of our team and look forward to her leadership.”

“I believe that well researched and well-crafted narratives have the power to inspire real change,” said Dicion.

“My goal is to deliver content that changes perceptions, inspires fresh thinking, and drives action that will help grow the hip-hop culture in Canada.”

“The HipHopCanada brand has been around for nearly 20 years and has been a well-respected platform for the hip-hop community to discover and collaborate on,” said Maurice Laurin, Co-founder, HipHopCanada Inc.

“There is immense opportunity for the hip-hop community right now to grow and we intend to be a major player in fostering that.”

Dicion holds a Journalism Diploma from Centennial College and a Post-Graduate Certificate in Corporate Communications and Public Relations.
