Yesterday, Murda Beatz went on Instagram Live while working on Kodak Black’s next project.

Not long before that, Rap Radar published their latest episode (Episode 33) featuring an exclusive 59-minute discussion with the Canadian producer touching on a variety of topics including his latest hit with Drake, “Nice For What.”

The story of how the song came together was probably the highlight of the TIDAL episode – hosted by Elliot Wilson and Brian “B. Dot” Miller – and even Billboard zeroed in on it earlier with a post of their own.

As Murda Beatz explained: “We were chilling at Drake’s house playing [NBA 2K] and we came up with the idea to sample a female artist. So I asked my manager, ‘Yo, what do you think?’ He’s like, ‘Ex-Factor.’ And Drake’s like, ‘Oh, what part?’ And we picked the part, chopped it up, I made the beat while he was playing 2K.”

Drake wrote the lyrics on the spot and the song was relatively complete before the pair went their separate ways.

“He’s like, ‘This shit fire.’ He sat there, wrote the shit in front of me, cut the shit in front of me. We got the shit done – beat and song – probably in like an hour and a half.”

“Hosted by Elliott Wilson and Brian ‘B.Dot’ Miller, Rap Radar is the home of hip-hop’s most revealing interviews. Both Wilson and Miller are true journalists who do an immense amount of research, know how to listen and are driven to get the answers to the questions hip-hop fans want to know.”

“Nice For What” is available on all streaming platforms including Spotify and Apple Music. The song was in the No. 1 spot on the charts for six weeks before getting bumped down to No. 2 by Childish Gambino’s “This Is America.” Drake also holds the No. 3 spot with “God’s Plan,” which has been on the chart for 17 weeks.
