Awards and Honours

There are various ways the Canadian music industry awards and honours its very best. From “Canada’s version of the Grammys,” the JUNO Awards to more regional award shows like the East Coast Music Awards, there’s no shortage of celebrations for great Canadian music and creativity.

It’s important to note that each organization has a unique process for being considered for nomination (or performing at their ceremonies). Whether it’s a specific amount of sales, or residence in a specific province, you’ll usually be able to find the details on their websites. Be sure keep an eye on deadlines since some of them have short submission periods.

We’ll do our best to provide the most complete and up to date listing of Canadian awards and honours below.

“Being named Songwriter of the Year at the JUNOS is the highest accolade there is for a Canadian music creator. SOCAN is honoured to sponsor and present this coveted award.”CARAS

Where: Toronto, ON | When: June 2018

The iHeartRadio Much Music Video Awards are annual awards presented by the Canadian television channel Much to honour the year’s best music videos.

In their modern form, the MMVAs are not held in a conventional theatre, but instead as a large street party situated around 299 Queen Street West—the main downtown Toronto studios of Much and other properties owned by its parent company Bell Media, including its parking lot, and parts of the street proper. There are no hosts or announcers in the traditional awards-show fashion; instead, the Much VJs are an integral part of the festivities, introducing (and interviewing) the awards’ presenters and winners throughout the show. As with many modern awards shows (such as the MTV Video Music Awards), many presenters and performers may have little or no connection to the music industry or that year’s nominees. Winners of a Much Music Video Award receive a statue made by New York firm, Society Awards.

Each year, MMVA viewers are encouraged to visit the website to vote for the Fan Fave category which includes Video, Artist or Group, and International Artist or Group.
