Grants and Funding

When it comes to grants and funding opportunities, Canadian recording artists and music creators have it good. There’s a ton of organizations which provide financial support and assistance for the right proposal submitted to their programs. You just need to make sure you meet the criteria and keep track of the deadlines listed on their websites.

Some organizations like FACTOR accept national submissions, while other organizations like the Ontario Arts Council are intended for residents of a particular region. But if the artist featured on your song happens to reside in Ontario (using the Ontario Arts Council as an example), you might still be qualified to apply. It comes down to the unique parameters attributed to each grant or funding program. Read the details and make sure your submissions are on point.

We’ve had requests to provide a listing of people or businesses that offer grant writing services. We’ll make a decision on that in the near future. In the meantime, we’ll do our best to provide the most complete and up to date listing of grants and funding organizations below.

In the 2016-17 fiscal year, FACTOR provided $18,613,432 in funding to a total of 2,886 projects across all of our programs.” – FACTOR

Grants and Funding - FACTOR (the Foundation Assisting Canadian Talent on Recordings)

FACTOR (the Foundation Assisting Canadian Talent on Recordings)

FACTOR (the Foundation Assisting Canadian Talent on Recordings) is a public/private partnership that supports the production of sound recordings by Canadian musicians and helps Canadian music companies make recordings available to a wider public.

They are dedicated to providing assistance toward the growth and development of the Canadian music industry. We administer funds from the Department of Canadian Heritage through the Canada Music Fund, and from Canada’s private radio broadcasters. FACTOR has been managing federal funds since the inception of the Sound Recording Development Program in 1986 (now known as the Canada Music Fund).

Support is provided to Canadian recording artists, songwriters, artist managers, record labels, music publishers, distributors, and event producers through numerous programs. Whether an artist is looking to record a few tracks, a full length sound recording, market and promote an existing album, or showcase and tour at home or abroad, funding is available. FACTOR supports the infrastructure that must be in place in order for artists and music entrepreneurs to progress into the international arena.
