Today’s Song of the Day is the recently released “Pretty Young Thing” single by Ottawa up-and-comer Steph Marcantonio aka queenyy, and distinguished First Nations Cree producer and choreographer, Chev Cheechoo aka chevdot.
The song is the punchy follow-up to their breakout single “Talking Sh*t,” a smooth jam which has already garnered attention internationally.
On “Pretty Young Thing,” the talented pair fuse their distinct musical styles and perspectives, offering a perfect taste of what their collaborative queenyy x chevdot project has to offer.
queenyy and chevdot may be new in the Canadian music landscape, but they’re far rookies. A dedicated lifetime of working with beats, dance, and songwriting has made their bond strong from the start, and their chemistry is second to none.
“Pretty Young Thing” is a song that captures the spirit of old-school heavy groove R&B while containing rhythmic elements that are very much rooted in modern day hip-hop.
The video—which has a mysterious yet colourful feel—brings viewers along for a ride while they bust out some moves at locations across Toronto. It provides an intimate and up-close look at what queenyy and chevdot are all about, and invites new listeners to groove with them.
queenyy and chevdot are just getting started, and are breaking new ground with a fresh sound that Ottawa hasn’t yet heard from hometown artists before.
You can find “Pretty Young Thing” on various digital streaming outlets including Apple Music and Spotify.
