After skyrocketing to popularity in France where he composed mixed and mastered one song per week for a year with his concept Rilèsundayz (over 250 million views and over 220 million streams), French-Algerian producer and English rapping Rilès is back with a new single “Marijuana.” It’s the first track from his debut album and comes with a stunning video featuring Snoop Dogg.
With “Marijuana,” Rilès is showing us a new side of himself, more soulful and organic. It’s the first joint venture between three of the biggest international labels including Republic, Polydor UK, and Capitol FR in many years. Rilès is the artist to follow in 2019. His debut album is expected to be out before the summer.
Republic Records Media released a statement from Rilès about the new single:
“‘MARIJUANA’ talks about my relationship with cannabis and its counter-productive effects that goes against my habits/mentality. The chorus ‘Baby, you’ve been on my mind’ introduces marijuana in an attractive way, which aims to trick the listener who might think I’m talking about a woman at the very beginning of the song. However, the further you go through the song, the more you’ll notice that I’m talking about the drug and its similarities with woman/sex/lust which are also a drug in a certain way. The video starts with a random work night at my desk when suddenly I’m struck by the need of marijuana. The video depicts the tribulations I go through to try to resist the drug before succumbing to it and ending up laying down in my bed.”
Rilès will be hitting the road soon for his Warm Up tour, and Montréal (April 7) is one of nine dates on the schedule. There’s also five European dates and three stops in the U.S.
