Toronto’s Rock3t to drop new album Body on Dec. 16; headlining release party Dec. 14

Toronto artist Rock3t to drop album debut Body on Dec. 16; headlining release party Dec. 14

Toronto up-and-comer Rock3t is gearing up for the release of his official album debut, Body, set to drop on his birthday, Monday, Dec. 16.

And while we’ll have to wait until next week to check out the full project, you can get a sneak peek at what to expect at the official release party taking place this weekend. It’s going down inside Gatsby’s Speakeasy (82 Bathurst Street) with doors opening at 8 p.m. Rock3t—with support from a gang of talented local artists—will be headlining the event and performing previously unheard songs.

Canada’s rap scene is in for a musical blast with the release of the 15-track Body, which captures the essence of Rock3t’s physical, emotional and spiritual journey while pulling on his afrobeat roots.

“Music is like therapy for me,” explains Rock3t (pronounced Rocket), the voice behind songs like “Diamonds Everything” (with Raidel) and “Neva Gon Stop” which have already established him as the one to watch out for.

“I write about my experiences, leaving hints of life lessons for those who are able to discern. Like a double-edged sword, the meaning can be different depending on the listener. What I love the most is that feeling of writing like a poet and puzzling words to fit. I never force it. The portal opens up and the music flows. Body pulls it all together. It’s the sense of what you want, the materials, the lower state, the flesh. It’s my evolution, the transcending of the physical and spiritual worlds.”

Body is a creative piece of work that’s simultaneously moving, motivational, energetic, raw and realistic, taking listeners on an emotional ride infused with a splash of spirituality. It’s a testament to Rock3t’s long and winding road to the present and an optimistic look toward his future. The track “Fuel” speaks to the ongoing struggles that have transformed Rock3t into the intensely spiritual person he is today, while the melodic Afrobeat “Shine” talks of his magical connections to the places that have shaped his life.

“‘Shine’ was a blessing as it happened on the spot and the connection I felt in the process of making it was real,” he explains.

Body was produced by Toronto music producers 9th Uno and BRYM.

“Rock3t’s multiple flows can transition verse to hooks seamlessly,” says Toronto music promoter Leon Anthony (a.k.a. LostBoyEh). “Whether it’s his rhythmic wordplay spitting out lyrics that you can relate to or his melodic flow that makes a club banger, Rock3t is an artist you definitely need to pay attention to because I believe his come-up is next.”

Body will be available on iTunes and Apple Music, with other streaming platforms to follow.
