Last week, Toronto rapper Seth Dyer dropped his smooth cuffing season-appropriate track, “Virgo Freestyle” as part of his Dyer Days Season 2 roll-out.
Today, he takes listeners in the opposite direction with his follow-up single “Criminals” featuring Meeno Giinchy. The bass heavy beat, produced by Dyer, is the appropriate backdrop for the song’s weighted story – a commentary on why and how young black men who come from poverty often feel like they have to turn to crime to make a living.
Offering up raw lyrics recited in a ‘matter-of-fact’ way on top of an aggressive beat, I found myself totally drawn in. “Criminals” is my favourite release from Dyer Days Season 2 so far.
