LA-based R&B duo THEY. announce their new Fireside EP is slated for release on Friday, Nov. 9 via Mind of a Genius / WBR. In celebration, they share their sweltering new single “What I Know Now” featuring Wiz Khalifa today. The stacked EP will feature collaborations with Ty Dolla $ign, Jeremih, Gallant, Vic Mensa and Jessie Reyez.
Producer Dante Jones and singer Drew Love quickly went from complete strangers to amassing millions of streams together, touring the world with PartyNextDoor, Jeremih, Bryson Tiller, performing on national television (Jimmy Kimmel Live!) and making their Coachella debut last year. They started making beats for others like Jeremih, Kelly Clarkson, Will.i.am + many others, but soon began dropping their own original work as THEY.
Their sound is lined with the R&B and rap they were surrounded by in their youth but also the grunge and indie rock sounds from some of their beloved bands like Nirvana and more in recent years, Tame Impala and Vampire Weekend, which continues to set them apart from the pack.
Dante and Drew first connected as outsiders who never quite belonged anywhere for most of their lives. Although both had hugely different upbringings, they were similarly two “alt” Black teens who existed outside stereotypes – they grew up listening to both Jodeci and Nirvana – influences that are very present in their music today.
Through their very rapid ascend, the pressures and demands of notoriety and their own individual life paths have pushed the duo into different directions resulting an unconventional relationship that has more friction than harmony.
Regardless of any strains and their own individual journeys, their deep bond over their art keeps them united and they are making their best music of their lives.
