Creating platforms for Canadian artists to showcase their talent to the country has been the overarching objective for HipHopCanada for the last two decades. Sharing news about new music is important to drive awareness, but we want to take our coverage one step further and help artists to create connections with our readers.
Today, we launch our new series, Unplugged, directed by Kieran Khan.
The show goes one-on-one with Canada’s rising R&B artists to give viewers insight into the experiences, beliefs, and influences behind the music. During the show, artists perform a track of their choosing before chatting one-on-one about their journey in music so far, challenges, victories, and what’s next for them.
Taped at Lynx Music in Toronto, Episode 1 of Unplugged features Mississauga, Ontario-based recording artist, Tony James, performing his track “Sweat Slow” alongside guitarist Jordan White.
He then sits down with our Managing Editor, Maricel Joy Dicion, to talk about the importance of building the right team, his journey in music so far, and what it felt like to hear his song on commercial radio for the first time.

Tony’s “Sweat Slow” single is available on all major digital streaming platforms including Apple Music, Spotify, and TIDAL.
